' I tried to turn off a bedside light and seemed like something wasn't right with me. I understood straight away it was a stroke.' In July 2023, after an active vacation kayaking and walking, Bob unexpectedly had a stroke. He was flown by air ambulance to University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, where he spent 4 weeks rehabilitating. 'I utilized the health club regularly and did (NROL)'. NROL is a group rehabilitation program for individuals who have had a stroke or have other neurological conditions. 'I had a structured schedule which offered me something to eagerly anticipate each week - socially, psychologically and mentally.' Bob thanked NHS staff for 'the great assistance' and the ongoing physiotherapy he got. Well done Bob and fantastic work team! Early acknowledgment of stroke symptoms can save lives. ' Working along with nurses and seeing the difference they made inspired me to believe, 'I might do that!" Meet Sharon, a sexual health nurse and non-medical prescriber who started her nursing journey in 1985 at the Royal Liverpool Teaching Hospital. In 2010 she joined Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust and continues to serve clients in Hertfordshire. 'I enjoyed helping individuals and learning more about the body, so nursing just felt right.' Sharon reflects. Sharon has actually worked in male infertility, menopause, miscarriage and colposcopy to name a few, showing the vast array of areas in which nurses make a distinction. 'Truly, I can't believe of an area where nurses don't make an impact in some form,' Sharon admits. On why her function is special, Sharon describes, 'The care, generosity, and empathy we bring make the nursing function unique.
