Illinois Business Developments

Illinois is the biggest market in the Midwest and home to over two thousand corporate headquarters, a thriving startup scene and over 1.2 million small enterprises, has all the resources that global companies require to thrive in business today. From world-class infrastructure that connects companies with customers and suppliers to highly skilled and knowledgeable workforces in various industries as well as a modern manufacturing base - Illinois leads in many areas such as advanced and clean technology, agriculture, energy, life sciences logistics for transportation.

Countries like Britain, Japan, Germany and China were among the top countries investing in Illinois; by 2023 this sum was greater than USD $13.2 billion in agricultural, manufacturing, and other areas in Illinois alone.

In 2014, over $1 billion in incentives have been given out under Illinois' Reimagining Energy and Vehicles program to businesses that offer electric vehicles and green energy production. This month, DCEO also rewarded PsiQuantum Manufacturing with an incentive package that was worth over $200 million to build a modern facility in East Alton.

Governor JB Pritzker was joined by representatives from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network and local officials today in Chicago to inaugurate CZ Biohub Chicago - a cutting-edge research hub that is at the forefront of cutting-edge research. The project will unite University of Chicago, Urbana-Champaign State University (UIUC) and Northwestern University researchers to study the human development of tissues as well to develop innovative therapeutics.

Governor JB Pritzker and Flender Corporation recently announced they are expanding their existing manufacturing facility in Elgin and will create 50 full-time positions while keeping the existing 140 full-time employees.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center located at Southern Illinois University is funded by a co-operative agreement between U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The Center provides entrepreneurs from the local area with help in beginning or expanding their business with services that include free business planning workshops One-on-one counseling sessions with experienced Business Advisors and access funding opportunities.

State officials in Indiana are pushing employers to offer better wages and benefits as a means of keeping childcare workers working across the nation as they face a shortage of employment. This follows the closure of a child care center in Bronzeville which was struggling to retain employees.

Illinois Department of Labor also created an online tool to help small businesses understand lawful employment practices. Employers can search by keyword or browse categories on the site, and connect to appropriate state agencies and other resources.

Illinois Business Development Authority (IBDA) is working to raise awareness of Illinois tax incentives for business expansion. They hosted an interactive webinar on this subject, which was recorded. The webinar will later appear on the website.
