Illinois Business Developments

Illinois, as the largest market of the Midwest and home to more than two thousand corporate headquarters, a bustling entrepreneurial scene, and more than 1.2 million small enterprises, has all the resources global businesses need to be successful in business today. From world-class infrastructure that connects businesses with their suppliers and customers to a skilled workers in various fields as well as an advanced manufacturing base, Illinois excels in a variety of areas such as clean and advanced agriculture, energy, IT life sciences logistics for transportation.

Illinois has seen a huge expansion of foreign investments in recent years. Countries like Britain, Japan, Germany and China were among the most investing in Illinois in 2023. By that time, the total was more than USD $13.2 billion across manufacturing, agribusiness and other industries in Illinois alone.

The initiative will bring together University of Chicago, Urbana-Champaign State University (UIUC) and Northwestern University researchers to study human tissue development as well and develop revolutionary therapies.

Governor JB Pritzker and Flender Corporation recently announced they have expanded their factory in Elgin which will create 50 full-time employees while maintaining the existing 140 full-time employees.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center located at Southern Illinois University is funded by a co-operative agreement between U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The Center assists entrepreneurs from the local area with help in the creation or expansion of their businesses with services that include free business planning workshops individual counseling sessions with experienced Business Advisors, and access to financing options.

State officials in Indiana are insisting on employers offering higher pay and benefits as a way to keep child care employees in the United States and facing a lack of job. The decision comes after the closing of a children's care facility located in Bronzeville which was struggling to retain employees.

Illinois Department of Labor also launched an online tool designed to help small businesses understand employment laws. Employers can search using keywords or browse categories on the website, as well as connect with state agencies and information sources.
